Hi-Crush Proppants (“Hi-Crush”) is a leading producer of premium monocrystalline sand, a specialized mineral that is used as a proppant (“frac sand”) to enhance the recovery rates of hydrocarbons from oil and natural gas wells. Hi-Crush owns, operates, acquires and develops frac sand reserves and related processing and transportation facilities. Our reserves consist of Northern White sand, predominately found in Wisconsin and limited portions of the upper Midwest region of the United States, and is highly valued as a preferred proppant due to its favorable physical characteristics.
As of June 30, 2013, Proppants held a 49.7% limited partnership interest (excluding the Class B units) in Hi-Crush Partners LP (NYSE: HCLP), a publicly traded limited partnership engaged in the production and supply of frac sand for use in all major U.S. shale basins. HCLP is managed and operated by the board of directors and executive officers of Hi-Crush GP, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hi-Crush.
On June 10, 2013, HCLP completed the acquisition of D&I Silica, LLC (“D&I”), a leading supplier of frac sand servicing the Marcellus and Utica shales. In addition to supplying frac sand, D&I also provides a variety of transload services including terminal storage and railcar storage and handling. Combined, Hi-Crush and D&I provide customers with a complete solution through a suite of services from the mine to the transload terminal.
